This year, Camp Crossroads is a sight like none other. This year the majority of campers there will be kids with diabetes.
The camp, sponsored by the American Diabetes Association, is a lifesaver for parents who say other local camps won’t accept their children because it’s too much of a risk.
The American Diabetes Association crafts the camp’s curriculum, incorporating diabetes management into typical camp activities.
Before snack time, campers check their blood sugar. During lunch, a dietitian presents a lesson.
The week-long camp costs $310 per camper. Because of the cost associated with attending, the American Diabetes Association offers scholarships for interested families.
Signing up for next year’s camp will begin in February.
