Durham, NC September 09, 2022 –(PR.com)– With the growing popularity of online commerce, businesses that rely on cloud-based databases increasingly need VMs that can quickly process transactions in the cloud. PostgreSQL databases offer organizations scalability to meet growing demand, but choosing the right VMs can be difficult without understanding how well they’ll handle the work. A new report from PT highlights how new Microsoft Azure Lsv3-series VMs with 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors compared to Lasv3-series VMs with 3rd Gen AMD EPYC processors on PostgreSQL OLTP work.

PT compared the OLTP performance of these two types of storage-optimized Microsoft Azure VMs at three sizes running PostgreSQL databases using the HammerDB TPROC-C 4.4 workload. According to the report, “at every size, the Lsv3-series VM completed more OLTP operations per second (OPS) than the Lasv3-series VM.”

PT found that the small Lsv3-series VM processed up to 19.8 percent more OPS than the Lasv3-series VM; the medium VM processed up to 23.6 percent more OPS; and the large VM processed up to 19.1 percent more OPS.
